The country of India has, like all other nations, unique ways that their economy is ran and how they succeed. India has always maintained the style of agriculture as a majority of their economy. However, as modern methods and ideas spread throughout the world, the subcontinent of Asia is engulfed in a conflict between traditional and modern economic methods. This cultural tug of war is split into two sides: modern economy and traditional economy. Modern economy is composed mostly of technological advancements and is based in the urban society. Traditional economy is teeming with agricultural endeavors that have been prevalent in India for most of its history. India has the second largest growing economy with the second largest population, and thus has a very fast growing economy because of the adaptation to western lifestyle and adaptation, which makes many cities urban and sub-urban. On the other hand, cities that are submerged in old Indian tradition still remain rural with less economic growth. For example,the traditional Indian job is agriculture, which is not capable of achieving sufficient amounts foriegn exchange. In contrast with that, cities like Bangalore have many out-sourced jobs such as Call centers, Software and IT. These jobs bring in lot of money from other countries, which is evident by the current foreign exchange reserve in India. However, the workers are giving up Indian traditions such as food, clothing, because the jobs want them to. People working People working in call centers has work all night and sleep during the day. By working this way, they are adapting themselves to fast food and giving up the traditional Indian food called Thali. Therefore, the substantial differences between the traditional, rural economy and the modern, urban economy spawns a cultural tug of war that has hindered the success of India in the international economy. We chose this topic, becuase, we thought economic trends in India is interesting and we wanted to learn if India is completely Independent Economically.
