THE YOUTH STRUGGLE TO MODERNIZE INDIA

By John D. and David H. B3

We chose to do the youth of India, because the youth is the next generation in India and will decide how much india will be modernized in the future, the big issue is that the youth have to put up with the older generations, like their parents, who want their children to be traditional. This poses a problem for the youth and the youth will have to overcome their parents to modernize the country.

This video shows the working life in india and shows the modernized

side and the tradional side through the images of the city and farming.

This shows that more people are starting to accept the modern life as

the next generation moves closer to adulthood.

This youtube video is about a little boy who sees a tree in the middle of the road

and takes the initiative to try and move it himself. After everybody that was fighting

sees this little kid try to push this gigantic tree out of the way so that cars can get by,

they start to help him out and end up accomplishing the task, it is mainly the little kids that

started it and the adults followed. This video shows that in order for there to be any

change in India, the kids are going to have to be the example. Thus letting the younger

generation gain independence from any taboos of their society that is inforced by the

elders.

THE BIG SITUATION

The big situation is a pretend dialogue between a 13 year old boy named Mukul and his mother named Devashri and their argument about Mukul's cellphone that he got as a gift from a friend. Later on in the dialogue, Mukul's Father, Nihal, who comes and parts the fight.

Devashri- I want you to take that phone back to your friend NOW!!! Tell him you have two good feet and a healthy mouth and do not need a waste of money we don't have AND break tradition.

Mukul- Mom, I respect you, but I am the only one of my friends who doesn't have one, plus I can use my

hands to talk with texting, a lot easier.

Devashri- You talk with your mouth, not your hands, plus, talking costs money we don't have and texting costs more.

Mukul- I have unlimited texting, and a pay as you go plan and I can text my friend Balraj.

Devashri- Isn't that Neelam's son?

Mukul- Yes.

Devashri- You can't be friends with him, he isn't part of your caste.

Mukul- No one I know even cares about the caste system anymore, I'm even friends with Bhanu.

Devashri- The untouchable. I cannot believe you or your friends. First the cellphone thing, now your ignoring the caste system. I am going to tell your father, he will not stand for this. NIHAL!!!

Nihal- WHAT!!!

Devashri- Mukul's disobeying our rules AND our RELIGION!!

Nihal- How is he being bad?

Devashri- He won't give up his cellphone and he is friends with people out of his class and says that everyone of his friends does it.

Nihal- Whats so bad about that?

Devashri- He is disobeying us and the religion.

Nihal- I see why your so upset now.

Devashri- So then take that abomination that they call a cellphone and punish him SEVERELY!!!

Nihal- There is no reason to punish Mukul, so why should I?

Devashri- WHAT, YOUR NOT GOING TO PUNISH HIM!!!!

Nihal- You hit the nail on the head. When I was growing up, I was never fond of this caste system, and it was bound to happen in this modern day and age, don't forget that I work for a car company and you were never happy about that, but you just got to live with it. Do the same for your son. I want him to be a successful man when he grows up, so he can buy me a super nice wheelchair when I'm older.

Devashri- Fine, keep the cellphone and do what you want, but if you get yourself in trouble, its not my fault.

Mukul- Thank you mom and dad. I'll guarantee that wheelchair you really want dad!!!

Nihal- Thats my boy.

END

This shows the common conflict between young and the old. Devashri, the mother, represents the old rules and Mukul is the youth with the modern rules in mind, and Nihal is the in-between where he was never fond of the old way, but just learned to accept it in the day and age he grew up in and doesn't want it to happen to his son and wants the best for him.
